A word from Chris Nye about tonight’s vote count

Thank you so much to everybody who has made this a great experience for me and my family. The final tally isn’t done but early returns appear to show that I will soon be a University Place City Councilmember.

I ran for office because I want to help solve problems that appropriately belong in front of our City Council (let’s make sure we’re working on the right problems!).  This is a non-partisan office, and the organization works best if a group of strong leaders with conviction, energy and ideas understand the objective and work toward a common goal.  I look forward to working with whoever can help to resolve issues, without regard to their political affiliations.  I am grateful that so many voters and organizations across the political spectrum agree with this vision.

Chris's observations about the primary election

"As I reflect on the events of the last few months that led up to the excellent results of the recent primary election, I am grateful to the people who have made pleasant my first campaign for public office.

In my campaign announcement I talked about the concept of staying out of the stinkweed and staying on track toward achieving our objectives as a city.  It means that I hope to not invest either your time or mine looking backward or trying to assign blame for previous decisions or results.  I remain committed to that objective.

It has been fascinating to observe how constituents make decisions about candidates and issues, and how perception can become reality.  To encourage perceptions to be as accurate as possible, I’d like to share with you some of the things I’ve observed during this campaign.

The News Tribune announces endorsement of Chris Nye

On July 27th, The News Tribune announced its endorsement of Chris Nye for University Place City Council Position 6.

Nye is an uncommonly impressive candidate. He is a former Special Forces commander; he founded a real estate marketing company, and he’s a state and regional leader of Realtors organizations. A board member of the Fircrest Golf Course, he’s also well-versed in golf course management – a useful specialty, given University Place’s joined-at-the-hip relationship with Chambers Bay Golf Course.

He’d be an excellent addition to the city government.

Speech at Campaign Kickoff

June 22, 2011

Distinguished guests, friends and neighbors, I’m Chris Nye and I’m running for University Place City Council.
Running for public office is a little new to me.  I was told I needed a “kick-off” party to jump start my campaign.  Not knowing what a "kick-off" entailed, I consulted the great political philosopher GOOGLE!
Google says I’m to come up here tonight and tell a little about myself and you tell you why I am running for city council and ask you for your support.
